Actually, 'The Dump' needs £500 (C$765).

After negotiations....... The Scout Association has determined that it will allow this website to continue (with an acknowledgement that the material is reproduced with the ‘Permission of the Trustees of The Scout Association’), if 'The Dump' pays this fee (The Scout Association is now involved in legal action against Google, Microsoft and Project Gutenberg). Recent case law has allowed for the 70 year rule to be applied, even to those works where the 50 year rule had made them Public Domain.

Since 'The Dump' is a free, but privately-funded site, the only way that it can continue is by the generosity of it's users and not by attempting to legally fight this decision ('The Dump' would most likely lose). It is a rather inexpensive way to make all of these books available for free, assuming that the funds can be raised.

Here is the Full List of the books that will be made available again when the fee is paid to The Scout Association. (305 as of March 21, 2010, new books are added regularly....) If the funds cannot be raised to pay this fee, then 'The Dump' will cease to exist.
